The Big 3-0

I've sort of been dreading turning 30 for a while (maybe even a few years), but like it or not, the big day came. I started the birthday celebration the night before with the annual too close to Christmas crappy December birthdays party. Even though we have birthdays right before/after the holidays, we had lots of friends come and celebrate with us.

My actual birthday was a great day. I woke up early and went to spinning at the gym. I loved starting out the day with a good workout. I pretty much finished my 30 by 30 list. Chelsea hacked my blog to post this. I flew to Vegas in the early afternoon. Chelsea and I got pedicures. We went to dinner at Chilis with a friend, my college roommate Eleisha.

She gave me some pretty flowers and a box of 30 funny memories over the years. I got lots of phone calls, texts, emails, and facebook messages.

It was a great day.

My friend was in Vegas for the BYU game. When plans to meet up didn't work out, she surprised me the next day with

Even though I have a too close to Christmas crappy December birthday, and I'm no longer in my 20s, so far the big 3-0 isn't as bad as I've always feared. We'll see how the rest of the year goes.

Sewing Fun

A few months ago I bought this...
(the sewing machine. not the diet coke)

Good thing I have good friends to help me
learn to make this

Ok so it doesn't look like much in the picture, but thanks to Teresa's sewing lesson I finally started sewing my denim quilt. I have 4 rows done and hope to finish the rest this week. For some reason I thought it was a good idea to make all the squares different sizes which makes the sewing a little tricky, but it's turning out really cute.

Road Trip

As part of my 30 things to do by the time I am 30, I made a goal to go to all the temples in Utah. Luckily I have already been to some of the further away temples (St. George, Vernal, Manti) but never Monticello. Since the big 3-0 is fast approaching, Anne and I took advantage of fall break and took a road trip to Monticello. It really was a road trip. That place is practically at the other end of the earth. It was totally worth it though. The temple is of course beautiful and very peaceful. I loved being there even if I did have to drive to the middle of nowhere to get there. Anne and I had a great time. We talked and laughed and even made a stop in Moab to eat at the Moab Diner. When we got home after our 14 hour day, we were both really glad we went to Monticello and happy to check one more thing off the list.

Grow Something

I didn't say what I had to grow. I just said I had to grow something.

The Dumb List

Turning 30 is a bid deal especially in the single world. I have been dreading the big 3-0 for a couple of years now. Since I'm well on my way, I decided last summer I needed something to take the dread out of 30 so... I created a list of 30 things to do before I turn 30. Some of the things on the list are things I have always wanted to do. Some are things I have never wanted to do, and some are things I never thought I would do. Here I am 3 months into 29 and moving right along on my list.

When Carrie started planning the St. George trip she talked about all the things we might do-hot tub, tennis, swimming, relax...and the boys might want to go golfing. The golfing part made me a little nervous, but it is on my dumb list. Carrie spent half of a gmail chat conversation convincing me no one cares, we make mistakes, this is a good group to try it with, don't hold back, stop wasting time being scared to try new things, etc. She is right. This is the whole reason I made the dumb list-to push me out of my comfort zone. Golf is definitely out of my comfort zone, but I did it. I wasn't good at all, but no one else really was either. I got a little frustrated. I felt a little stupid. I might have cried just a little bit (funny how feeling uncomfortable=emotional). I even had fun, and I might be convinced to go again...with the right crowd.

our 2 groups. we tried boys in a group and girls in a group for the first hole but quickly split up the boys and girls.
in the golf cart(fun part). roman and rocky were the only ones who kept score.

action shots
carrie has some good golfing shots, but my favorite was her driving the cart backwards all the way down a path.
