wear it wednesday...unblogged bloggable fall look

i don't know what happened, but somehow i never blogged this outfit. i also just spent 25 minutes looking for the pictures and deleting the bad ones (there were a lot). i actually wore this outfit in the spring, but it screams fall to me.

fall scarf exchange

we all know i LOVE summer more than any other season. i like fall, but i don't love it like everyone else. one of my favorite things about fall is the wardrobe switch to cardigans and scarves. i have a lot of both, but can you really ever have too many? (don't answer that).
i always enjoy doing box swaps. it's a fun way to get to know new people, and i love the anticipation of waiting to see what's coming in the mail. when i saw the announcement about the scarf swap i was so excited. i shopped and packaged and shipped and waited for my package in the mail.
becky sent me this fun package
i have zero buffalo plaid in my closet which i need to fix immediately. i love this scarf. it's warm and cozy but also a little lighter weight so i don't choke to death. i'm pretty sure i'll wear this thing all winter long. the sanitizer is perfect. i use that stuff all day long.

how we wore it//darker fall tones

i look forward to the how we wore it series every month. i make sure to sign up first thing and wait for the email from brooke. something happened this month, and i never saw the email. luckily i talked to sarah at the blogger sleepover last weekend to find out my name actually was on the list. i'm so sad i almost missed this month.

now for this month's inspiration photo...

my first thought was i have black jeans and a black bag, but what am i going to do about the rest of this look? i have no gingham in my closet. i ran into kohls the other night and found the perfect shirt-except it didn't fit well. i ended up finding a different shirt at walmart-for less than $10. i have been looking for more shirts so it was easy to justify.

sarah and i met for photos. i handed her my camera and didn't realize it was on manual until half way through--hence the over exposed photos in the beginning. oops

to sign up for next month, go to brooke's blog for details.

wear it wednesday...rocksbox numero dos

**i received a trial subscription courtesy of rocksbox in exchange for promotion.

ever since my first rocksbox, i've been pretty excited for more boxes. how fun is it to get a box of jewelry in the mail?!? it's fun!

the rocksbox idea is genius for people who love jewelry like me-pay a small fee, make a wishlist, get a box of jewelry, wear as much as you want, send it back when you're ready to trade. keep what you want and send the rest back.

i sent back my first box and couldn't wait to see what came next. i requested a lot of necklaces and earrings, and that's exactly what i got.

this necklace was really cute but too short. i didn't even wear it.
beautiful but expensive necklace. i wore it, loved it, and sent it back.

love love the earrings. it's hard to see, but they're the perfect sparkle. i kept these, and they're great.

wear it wednesday...matchy matchy

if you follow me on social media, you know i like matchy matchy. i often use the hashtag #matchymatchy. i don't even care what is matchy. i just like it.

summer is another thing i really love. sadly, summer is ending. i'm in a little bit of denial about it, but it really is happening. stores are full of fall clothes, and it's time to start thinking layers and leggings and boots.

wear it wednesday...modesty

i've heard the word MODESTY my whole life. growing up we talked about dressing modestly. as an adult i try to dress modestly, but i haven't necessarily thought a lot about it. what exactly does that mean? i did a quick search
  • behavior, manner, or appearance intended to avoid impropriety or indecency.
    plural noun: modesties
"modesty forbade her to undress in front of so many people"
    synonyms:unpretentiousness, simplicity, plainness
i mostly agree with the definition-maybe not the simplicity and plainness part:), but the rest matches my thoughts on modesty. i also think of modesty in dress as respecting my body enough to cover it up. for me that means wearing clothing that has covers my shoulders and comes down to my knees (i.e. no short shorts and tank tops). jana did a stellar job explaining my personal and religious beliefs about modesty. while jana and i both agree on what modesty means to us, everyone has a right to their own opinion. i don't think i am right and someone else is wrong. i would love your thoughts on modesty and what it means to you. please share in the comments.
when i got hired at my job and asked about the dress code, my boss told me it's fairly relaxed "probably just no tube tops". i sit on the floor with kids in their homes all day. due to the dress code/lack of dress code, i have a lot of options. i want to appear professional yet comfortable/functional enough to sit on the floor.
summer is tricky. utah is hot! i am in and out of my hot car all day long-every hour. i would love to wear to skirt and dresses everyday, but sitting on the floor working/playing with toddlers in a skirt/dress doesn't work very well. jeans are way too hot when it's 100+degrees.
here are a few tips for modesty in a casual workplace.
1. longer shorts with patterns. the patterns make the outfit look a little nicer while still maintaining comfort to be on the floor. these are from old navy, and i have 5 pair of them (basically my uniform for the summer).
2. bright/bold colors-not everyone loves bright colors, but for me color adds a lot of style without adding a lot of hot layers.
3. layer-i LOVE cardigans! it usually gets to a point in the summer (right now) when it's too hot for that added layer of a cardigan, but when it's not extremely hot, cardigans finish the look. even when it's really hot, i sometimes start the day with a cardigan, and take it off later in the day. it's a good way to make my outfit a little cooler while still maintaining modesty.
along with sitting on the floor all day, i take my shoes on and off every hour. i tend to wear a little dressier flip flop most days. while a cuter sandal or wedge would really complete the look, it doesn't work for my job.

i firmly believe in getting up everyday and getting ready for the day-whatever that means for you. jana has some tips for modest fashion for the stay at home mom. make sure to check it out. she manages to stay a little cooler, feel modest in her dress, and be totally fashionable-my idol.
what are your thoughts on modesty? what's the dress code for your life-work or otherwise?

wear it wednesday...rocksbox review part 1

***i received a free trial of rockbox in exchange for this post***

a few weeks ago i talked about how excited i am about rocksbox, but i didn't show you anything that came in my box. after filling out the questionnaire about what i wanted, i was excited to see what my stylist came up with. she gave me exactly what i asked for-earrings, bracelet, layering necklace. the bracelet is a leather wrap bracelet. it's cute, but i actually haven't worn it yet which pretty much means i need to send it back and trade it for something else. that's what I love about it. if I don't love something, I send it back and get something new.
