weekend recap...tour de utah

laurann and i had some tentative plans to go out of town for memorial day weekend. after my trip to california, i decided i better stay in town. we decided to do some local touristy things. we tried to do things we haven't done. if you follow me on social media, you saw the major overgram of the weekend. we had a great time touring our own town.

friday
1. olympic oval
i went to 1 event during the 2002 paralympics at the oval and haven't been back since.
2. thai delight
such delicious thai food. highly recommended and was so good.
3. leatherby's
we have both been there, but it's a popular utah location for ice cream especially

saturday
1. swig
drinks + treats. yes we started the day with diet coke and a cookie
2. air and space museum
neither of us had been there. it was a really cool place with a lot of planes.
3. burger bar

4. utah state capitol
5. public transportation
we only rode the train about 4 blocks, and somehow we still managed to mess up.
6. blooms and co.
brynn is a great friend and amazing floral designer.
7. city creek mall
laurann's shoes were really slippery on the wet sidewalk so we ran into the mall for some power shopping.
8. temple square
even though we have both been there many times, it is a definite must see when touring utah.
9. bruges waffles
we hoped to find a waffle truck, but we never did.

10. moochie's
i've heard about this place for such a long time. the food was so good.
11. REAL soccer game

we took sunday off to rest and catch up a little

monday
1. legacy trail
the trail is long and safe
2. nielsen's frozen custard
another place we have both been, but it's such a popular place we had to go. the lemon custard was so good.
3. fiiz
another drink+treats
4. south davis rec center
the pool was pretty crowded but all we wanted was the sun
5. the dudes food
hand dipped corn dogs. they were really really good, but i probably don't need another for a while.
spending the weekend touring our own town was so much fun. there are more places we want to go. something like this would make a really fun summer bucket list or date night or anything else.
locals..where should we go next?

remembering 9/11

yesterday was the 11th anniversary of september 11. i loved listening to the radio and reading FB posts all day. i'm so glad people still remember. as i drove to work with tears in my eyes listening to the patriotic songs with voiceovers from people who lost their lives, it really made me think. i blogged about it last year, and i still think the same things. our country came together that day, and look at it now. the dj on the radio talked about it being our duty to remember and our duty to teach. i realized i was teaching a class. even though i might be the teacher of the the tiniest little tykes who don't have a clue what's going on, i agreed with him. it is my duty...to remember and to teach. so, we colored american flags in playgroup and took the youth to the sandy city healing field. it was the perfect way for me to remember and hopefully never forget.

shawn wore his military uniform and gave us a little talk about patriotism

september 11 is a day i hope i never forget. i remember exactly where i was and what i was doing. even if it is just for one day a year, i love seeing people unite to remember. i really hope we always remember.

Sundance

I've been to the Sundance Film Festival a few times to walk around or to go to concerts. I've never actually been to a movie so when Mary had an extra ticket I was excited to go. The tickets were free. We got great parking. The movie was very educational, interesting, and clean. No celeb sightings but otherwise it was great.

last stop...nyc

After 5 days in DC and 2 days in Philly, I took the bus to NYC. There was some crazy bad traffic, but it was still the best cheapest way to go. I was mostly there for work and a little fun too. I had work trainings all day the first 2 days but managed to do a few things after work.

stayed with college friend ginny (and took no pictures)

visited 9/11 memorial (deserves its own post)

saw occupy wall street (not sure what dressing like santa, mrs. clause, and baby clause will do to help this situation)

walked around times square (and took the must take picture)

saw Memphis (entertaining singing and dancing)

walked to central park from ginny's apartment (so very jealous of all the runners)

did a little shopping in the pouring rain

It was a great 10 days!

Little Mermaid...St. George

When I found out The Little Mermaid was at Tuacahn this summer, I immediately called Chelsea to tell her we HAD to take Karlee. She watched the movie for the first time last Christmas and has loved it ever since. The show did not disappoint and neither did Karlee. She LOVED it! The show was absolutely amazing, and it was so much fun being there with Karlee.

we showed up in St. George all matchy matchy

Karlee was so happy to see Ariel and jumped right in her arms

The main reason we went to St. George was for cousin Eric and Megan's wedding. We had a low key family bbq in the afternoon and wedding and reception that night. An August wedding in St. George was nearly the death of me, but it was great spending time with the family.

trying to get a good picture with these kids is next to impossible

Les Mis

I thought I was the only person on the planet who had never seen Les Mis. When I found out it was coming to Salt Lake, I had to go. Laurann really wanted to go too. We raced to dinner at Blue Lemon before the show. We didn't have the best seats (I mostly couldn't see anything), but I'm so glad we went. It was very well done and an enjoyable night.
