how we wore it: bright colors

it's time for another edition of how we wore it. i say this every time, but this really is one of my favorite posts each month. as a refresher, each month we get an inspiration photo. it's up to us to style the look however we choose. i like to try to match the look as closely as possible although that isn't necessarily the point. i think we are technically only supposed to use what we already have, but i have been known to buy something new or borrow a few times.

i was so excited when i got the look for this month. i love bright colors and wear them all the time! a few things stood out to me in the photo-the purple and red combo, sunglasses, bun, clutch, statement necklace, heels, and spring flowers. i was able to pull together most of those elements except the flowers. i took these pictures a few weeks ago, and there was not one single blossom anywhere. now they are all over.

i can't wait to see how all these lovely ladies wore it.

beauty time tuesday...let's talk about hair

we all know i hate washing my hair. i've talked about it multiple times on here as well as all over social media and in real life. i spent a lot of years of my life wasting my time washing my hair and even more wasted time blow drying my hair. i realize i'm pretty lucky in the hair department, but i'm so happy i finally came to my senses.
i am pretty much to the disgusting point with my lack of hair washing. i am basically on a once a week schedule these days. i work out 6 days a week so don't even try to tell me you have to wash your hair daily because you go to the gym. i use so much dry shampoo, blow dry the sweat back in, and style as usual. yes it's gross, but i kind of love the texture it gives my hair.

i recently had the opportunity to test out this new l'oreal 6 in 1 cleansing balm. it sounds really great in theory. cleanse, treat, soften, detangle, condition, and shine all in one sounds so great. the problem is i don't think it is really made for people who only wash their hair once a week. i tried it, and my hair was not clean in the slightest. admittedly i had not washed or brushed my hair for over a week, but my hair was like horse hair. i couldn't even blow dry it all the way. it is probably a good product, but it is not for me.

i know i'm not the only one that never washes or brushes my hair. are you a wash daily or never or somewhere in between?

one little word: april goals

i sound like a broken record. this year is flying by. i kind of blamed february being a short month, but march is definitely not a short month. excuses or no excuses april is here. it's time to check in on our monthly goals.

now that we're a few months into the year, i think a lot of us start to lose focus on our goals. for me that is one of the best reasons to check in monthly and continue to set new monthly goals. my big focus for the year is being still, but so far i am also really focused on health and fitness.

yearly goals to be still
1. morning and night quiet time-drive to the gym with no music/spend a few minutes each night reflecting on the day and writing 3 good things about the day-i do really well in the morning. i drive to the gym and sometimes home in the quiet. i love starting out the morning with a really clear head.
2. attend the temple monthly-i went to the payson temple
3. color once a week-i've been a little hit and miss with this one. i really like to color, but my coloring book is so small and detailed. i finally realized even though i really like it, the small coloring book kind of stresses me out. it's a little too detailed for me. i think i would rather just color a princess.
4. prayer book-keep list of people i need to remember to pray for-i keep the book beside my bed. i use it some of the time. i could do better with this.

march goals
1. drink apple cider vinegar every morning-i am doing much better with this than i have any other month. when i am home i have been really good about doing it. i have to only drink a shot of it and bite a lime right after. biting the lime is the best trick i have ever heard.
2. do more cardio 2-3x/week-i'm getting through my workouts a little faster and earlier some days so i do have a little more time for cardio.

april goals
1. try one new workout class-either yoga or pure barre
2. select weekly ponderize scripture again-for a long while i selected a scripture each week to focus on. i haven't been doing as well with it lately.
3. send 3 cards in the mail-i love sending mail. i've haven't done much of it this year.

how are your goals going this year? did you pick a word of the year? grab the button below and linkup. we're not big on rules so hop around and have some fun.

bon's book club...quiet

i know. i kind of can't believe it either. i already have 2 book clubs so why in the world would i even think about joining another?!? this book club has 2 parts-one in person for locals and two online today. i am not committed to attend this book club every single time, but i do like to go when i can. this month bon's book is quiet: the power of introverts in a world that can't stop talking by susan cain.

i honestly wish i could say i read the book because i find the subject very fascinating. we read it in one of my other book clubs a few years ago. the discussion about introverts and extroverts is very interesting. it's interesting to hear what people have to say about themselveses, their relationships, and other people around them.

the book/discussion gave me a whole new perspective on introverts and extroverts. i always thought it had to do with how social someone is or isn't. the author describes it much differently. it's not so much about social interests but rather energy. do you get your energy from being around other people or from alone time? do gatherings make you feel recharged and energized or drained?

i am a 100% extrovert. i get recharged from spending time with people. i don't prefer to be alone. i stay until the end almost every single time. i want to be around people all of the time.
time with friends is my fave

the author has a quiz to help figure out if you are an introvert or extrovert. most people are one or the other but have severel preferences the other way. i am straight extrovert. it's definitely an interesting discussion. head over to the life of Bon to see her discussion of the book.

do you consider yourself to be an introvert or extrovert?

wear it wednesday...easter dress

growing up we always got new dresses for easter. i think adults should follow the tradition. i haven't always done it, but this year i happened to find this dress a few weeks before easter. i saved it for easter, and i loved having something new to wear.

beauty time tuesday

i wear a lot of ballet flats this time of year. it's not quite warm enough for sandals, but thankfully it's getting a little too warm for boots most days. they're perfect for the weather and perfect for my job.
there is something that isn't so perfect. ballet flats make my feet sweaty-gross i know. a while ago i had the brilliant idea to try spray deodorant on my feet. it changed my life, and i just had to tell you.

weekend happs

my weekend started a little bit early this week. our paid time off policy changed last year, and we had to request our days off before the end of the year. i picked friday as one of my carry over days off. i am lucky to have a job that gives me plenty of time off and a lot of flexibility.

friday kind of felt like saturday, and i loved it. i met melanie for lunch and shopping. i say this all.the.time, but spending time with friends and family is one of my favorite things ever. we had the best time visiting over lunch and shopping. our time together went by so fast.

friday night we finally celebrated michelle's birthday. it was a few weeks ago, but we had the hardest time coordinating our schedules. we went to cheesecake factory at city creek for dinner. we walked around the mall for a while after dinner which was so nice after all the food. after dinner we went to leatherbys for ice cream. i've been doing no treats until easter so i just had water.

saturday started bright and early with my favorite run. we ran to liberty park-my very favorite. i've had a lot a hard time running the last few years. it was so nice to have a good day. i ran really strong, and it made me so happy.

after running i did a bunch of errands. on friday, my brakes in my car started sounding awful. $300 later and i have new brakes. tifany and sage picked me up so i didn't have to wait forever for my car.

tiffany and i went up to laurann's to watch the general women's broadcast. we had a nice casual night in.

i celebrated easter with tiffany and sage. i went to church, and then had easter dinner at their house. we made enough food to feed an army.

i had a great weekend. i'm sad it's over. how was your weekend? any exciting happs?

wear it not wednesday...saturday lunch

it's obviously not wednesday today, but let's just go with it. one of my favorite non summer saturday things is going to lunch with friends. it doesn't happen often so when it does i like to dress up just a little. winter came back to utah so i got back out some of my cold weather clothes including this long high low cardigan.

i've been loving heels a lot more lately. they re the perfect way to dress up the outfit.
