brave and beautiful

I am Brave and Beautiful - a beauty movement that is sweeping the globe. Colbie Caillat started it with her recent song and video called TRY. My blogging friend Megan of Brassy Apple wanted to push this movement along and invited women from all over to share what they looked like without make up and I joined in!! Colbie's song says, "Take your make up off. Let your hair down... Look into the mirror at yourself, Do you like you? Cause I like you... "
Megan and her friend Cobi of Peacefrom6pieces have been the team behind this whole project. Their worldwide vision included creating their own video inspired by the song TRY. The talent of Robbins Creative made it possible for them to pull it off. You have to click play and see the beauty and bravery displayed and you might even recognize a few faces in there.
Me along with 101+ other blogging women from different backgrounds, religions, ethnicities, ages, shapes and sizes have decided to be Brave and Beautiful! You can join in this movement too by sharing what you look like without makeup on. You don't need a blog either! Just tag your photo with #IamBraveAndBeautiful on Instgram and search the hashtag to see who else has joined in. ALSO, if you tag it with a second hashtag - #ColbieTRY we just might be able to get Colbie Caillat's attention since she was the inspiration behind it all!
Are you brave and beautiful? I am, here I go!
i'm a makeup girl. i never leave the house without makeup besides to go to the gym first thing in the morning. i don't like to be seen without makeup. being put together is really important me, and having my full face on makes me feel put together. even on days when i am doing chores around the house and don't get ready for the day until later in the evening, i still feel the need to put on all my makeup. sometimes i try to wear less makeup, but i can't seem to do it.
when megan first starting talking about her secret project and helping women feel brave and beautiful with who they are, i was very excited. i am still very excited, but i am also nervous. through this project i have realized that makeup is my comfort zone. makeup makes me feel better about myself, and it also hides a lot of my insecurities. sometimes you have to start out of your comfort zone.

posting no makeup shots almost made me run away from this project. posting my naked face for the whole wide world to see is definitely out of my comfort zone, but the point of this whole project is so much bigger than myself and my fears and insecurities. it's about celebrating the beauty within us all. makeup or no makeup, we are all brave and beautiful.

for the little tykes...color matching

i absolutely 100% did not come up with this idea on my own. a friend gave me the idea a few years ago. i'm sure i could look it up on pinterest, but i came up with pretty easy instructions.

supplies
pringles can
hot glue
butcher paper (or some other paper to cover the can)
tape (i used washi tape)
hole puncher
reinforcement labels (ya know...the kind you used in 6th grade when you tore the holes in your papers)
markers
pipe cleaners

1. cut paper to cover pringles can
2. cover can completely
3. use a little hot glue (or glue stick if you like that stuff) on the inside paper to glue it to the can and also glue the paper to the paper so it stays in place
4. secure the paper with some tape. i like this fun washi tape found at wal mart of all places

5. punch holes in the lid of the pringles can. i did 3.

6. color reinforcements with marker

7.  put reinforcements around holes in lid

8. match pipe cleaners to the holes

finished product

if you want pipe cleaners to go all the way in the can, trim the tops off. they cut easily with regular scissors

this was so easy to make. it could be quickly done during nap time or even with the help of your little tykes. i might add a kid's name to the other side of the can to make it more personalized. let me know if you make it.

26.2...big cottonwood round 2

running the nashville marathon was nothing like i expected. it was hard, so much harder than i thought it would be, and my performance was pretty terrible. it was bad enough it really made me consider stopping forever, but i didn't want to end like that.
even before nashville, i already planned to run st. george in october. i have been really nervous about it, but i decided to do it. i spent all summer training. i ended up being ready a little too early. i needed another long run before st. george so when robyn told me she was coming out to utah to run big cottonwood again, i decided to do it too.
we met for a few minutes at packet pickup. we decided our next roommate reunion can't include running

the start line was early and cold. we both looked so exhausted.
the start was fast and steep. i had a hard time getting started, but after several miles of trying to get into the running groove, i did a lot better.

i met a couple girls in the first half. it was their first full marathon.
we came out of the canyon at mile 15. renae, from my running group, met me and ran the rest of the way with me. she definitely saved. there course included a 7 mile out and back stretch. it was so hard, but having something there to support me made a huge difference.

marathons are hard-all of them. it pushes your body to its limit. the thrill of the finish never goes away.
i was so happy to finish. i barely missed my goal, but i finished really strong. i can't be upset about that.

i can't believe i'm doing this again next week. wish me luck.

wear it wednesday...agnes and dora

i've been obsessed with agnes and dora leggings for a while now. they are so soft and comfy and not see through at all. it is really crazy, but one size really does fit all. i don't wear a lot of leggings in the summer, but i can't wait to wear them every day in the cold, snowy winter.
ever since the pencil skirts came out i've been obsessing over them, but they seemed a little too long for my short legs. WRONG!

the pencil skirt with the thick fold down waistband was perfect. it's just as comfy as the leggings, and i'm in love.

i've been obsessing over the kimono too. they have so many great patterns to choose from, and they are so comfy too. the kimonos are coming to the website soon.

i wore this on friday of slumber soiree, and it was completely perfect. i love this outfit so much. i can dress it up with a fancier shirt and heels or dress it down with a t shirt and flip flops.

do yourselves a favor and head to agnes and dora immediately.
