what would you do...3.0

it's the second wednesday of the month which means it's time for another round of
WHAT WOULD YOU DO...
with a box of candy canes?
1. eat them
2. make peppermint hot chocolate.
confession...i didn't actually make this, but you could. add a little tiny peppermint extract and stir with candy cane.
the rest of the ideas require crushed candy canes. i was really nervous about the food processor actually working.
it worked just fine.
3. peppermint butter
bella the blog posted some recipes for compound butter last week, and i knew i wanted to try to make it.
1 1/2 c unsalted sweet butter
1/2 c crushed candy cane
1/4 tsp peppermint extract
go to her blog to get the step by step instructions and other yummy recipes
it's a sweet butter so cinnamon bread or another sweet bread is good with it
wrap it up and give as neighbor gifts.
4. peppermint crush cookies
this recipe was on the back of the relief society (women's church group) newsletter so i have no one to thank/blame for the recipe.
1 c butter
1 c brown sugar
2 1/2-3 c flour
1 c sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp baking soda
white chocolate chips
1 tsp peppermint extract
1/2 tsp salt
1 c crushed candy cane (i put T candy cane in the dough)
preheat oven to 350*. combine butter, sugars, eggs, extract, and salt. beat until just combined. add flour and soda. stir in chocolate chips and 3 T candy cane. roll dough into balls. dip tops in candy cane. bake 8-10 minutes.

i opened the oven after 8 minutes and saw super raw squished not cookies
i obviously put way too many on the pan.
even after trying again, these were still super flat. they taste good, but they don't look presentable at all. like i told you yesterday, i'm all about being real around here. sometimes things flop. i don't even know what to say to change them. more flour? more baking soda? anyone have any ideas?
5. peppermint scrub
i hopped on pinterest and found several links for scrubs
there were others too, but these are the 3 i used for inspiration for my own.
2 c sugar
2 Tbsp candy cane
1/2 c coconut oil (melted)
1/4 c olive oil
few drops of peppermint oil (i used DoTerra)
10 drops red food coloring
mix all ingredients except food coloring. split in half, color half red. layer red and white to look like a candy cane.
i haven't had the chance to make labels yet, but i think this might be my neighbor gifts this year. it smells and feels so good.

i can't wait to see what kimberly did with her box of candy canes.

  2. Oh my goodness, I'm so doing the sugar scrub idea! That's genius!! As for your cookies, I like to swap out crisco for butter because it usually results in a less flat cookie. But a little more flour probably wouldn't hurt either.

  4. Those cookies do sound yummy, even if they don't look impressive...nothing wrong with a cookie that is just yummy. I've seen plenty that look amazing and then taste of nothing. :o)
I've always wanted to try making my own marshmallows and I know I've seen some peppermint ones on pinterest.

  6. I'm so happy I was left with that peppermint butter and bread after book club! Let's just say I've been eating it almost everyday. The other day I even put some of the butter on my pancakes. It was tasty that way too! Thanks for sharing.
