random rambling...biting the bullet...

i posted these pictures on facebook (because I needed them) with the caption biting the bullet...

i'm not usually one for vague posts on social media, but i kind of wanted to see what people would say:) some people commented on my dress, my shoes, etc, and a couple of people commented on the caption.

i've been pretty vocal about my avoidance of online dating. i had one excuse after another for not doing it, but
1. i'm running out of excuses
2. i'm not meeting anyone any other way
3. turning 36 is scaring me to near death

i was visiting some friends last night. in the middle of chatting, dana grabbed my phone off the table and started signing me up for tinder. i didn't stop her.

dana has done online dating with a lot of success (and a few good stories), and she's been trying to get me to do it ever since we met. she's offered to do it for me many times. i decided earlier this year if anyone was serious about doing it for me, i would let them. so when she started i didn't stop her. (side note-she definitely wouldn't have done it if I didn't let her).

she picked my pictures, and we decided i needed one of just me. since tinder pulls from facebook, i had to post the few pics we took to have access to them. she wrote a very brief profile and started swiping. we've been good friends and roommates so i totally trust her.

part of me wants to tell the whole wide world. the other part of me doesn't want to tell a soul, but here i am sharing this experience for the whole wide world.

since we're being honest my biggest excuse for not doing it was/is i don't want to have to do it. i want to get set up on an amazing blind date (doesn't anyone have an amazing single brother or cousin or neighbor?!?), meet someone at a marathon or church, or pretty much any other way. the bottom line is I'm not meeting anyone any other way, and i really don't want to be single forever so here i am. the bullet has been bitten. i'll check back in soon and let you know how it's going.

  1. I wondered if someone's guess about your online dating profile was correct. I'm impressed that you let her swipe for you! I can't wait to hear how this goes, so many people have met on tinder. The first time I heard about it, I turned to Joe and said, "I'm so glad that I'm not in the dating world anymore." but the more that I've gotten to know about Tinder, I kind of like it. I mean... Joe and I were the poster children for institute. Sit next to someone new... talk to them... get their number.. go on a date... go on a few dates... hold hands and have it pointed out during scripture reading in institute... get engaged... have your engagement announced in a slideshow in institute... have them forever saying, "Maybe your future spouse is in this room, it worked for Joe and Amberly." .....anyway... Before Joe got home and started coming to institute, I felt like I was in a rut. I wasn't interested in anyone that I knew in any of the areas of my life, so I was going to change to a singles ward and a new institute group so I could meet more people. I think Tinder gives you a great way to meet more people... this was a super rambling comment... I'm tired...

  2. You go girl!!! You look great and I wish you all the best of luck! My dad and step mom met online and I've known various other people who have had successful relationships too so I know it can happen :)

  3. My cousin met her husband through Tinder! You get it girl! you look fab!

  4. Ok this makes me super excited! I can't wait to hear about it!

  5. So many people I know have meet, dated and married all because of an online dating connection. It's a scary world, dating. I would have no clue how to handle it if I was in the dating scene again. I jokingly say that I would just be single forever because there is no way I could handle the dating scene.

  6. Oh my goodness, I saw your post on FB and wondered what you meant, now I know!!! I am so glad you are open to this and my dream is to set up a couple to get married so I now have a mission! Best of luck and I can't wait to hear about your dating stories!

  8. A coworker of mine has recently joined Tinder as well, after not having the best experience with other online dating platforms. He's also on Plenty of Fish, which he does like! It's tough nowadays, especially because it seems like people now are not so inclined to strike up conversation with a stranger anymore. Same goes for making new friends, too, which I am having difficulty with after having moved to a brand new town an hour from where I used to live! Make sure to have an open mind with this, and have fun. Good luck to you :)

  9. Good luck - I met my hubby 11 years ago via an online dating site. I was his first online date. It's certainly scary, but for me it was absolutely worth it.

thanks for stopping by. i love love love hearing from you! i usually respond to comments through email so make sure you aren't a no-reply blogger.
